When you are in Gangtok, Sikkim, you would probably find yourself at MG Road and you would find that the MG Road or MG Marg is one of the most busiest places in Gangtok. It is one of the most happening shopping place and easily one of the busiest places in Sikkim.
Most cities in India have MG Road or Mahatma Gandhi Road. They are also known as MG Marg, Marg in Hindi means road. The MG Road in Gangtok is a long stretch of open malls or boulevard where locals and tourists can shop or take leisure stroll or just sit and relax on one of the many benches laid along the middle and on both sides of the road and enjoy the ambiance. The streets are clean, barely dusty and free of vehicles - yes, not vehicles allowed in.

Both sides of the street is lined up with shops, malls, restaurants and bars. If you are interested in buying souvenirs from Sikkim, MG Road has plenty of shops where you can buy souvenirs from.

For a visitor like me from Nagaland, it was a pleasure to see shops, restaurant and bars open quite late at night. Even at night, the street is quite busy. Another great experience for a visitor like me from Nagaland, where liquor is banned for whatever reason, is that I get to eat and sip my favorite malt without a feeling of quilt even during the day (laughs).
Barely dusty, the streets are clean and sparkle in the lights at night.
There are various off-beat places to visit while in Sikkim but you will find yourself at MG Road most probably. The most probable reasons to visit MG Road could be for food, drinks, leisure, shopping, or may be just to stroll before tucking in to sleep at your hotel.
