Jhum cultivation or shifting sultivation is practised since time immoriable in most parts of Nagaland, also known as 'slash-and-burn' cultivation. In Jhum cultivation, farmers clear vegetation and burn them after drying in the sun for months. Thereafter, the land cleared and sowing starts.
