Yak Ride (Yak Safari) at Tsomgo Lake in East Sikkim



 
When you are in Sikkim, you should also try the Yak Ride. Organized in different parts of Sikkim, Yak Safari is truly an enjoyable experience. Yak rides are available at various tourist hot spots in Sikkim including at Tsomgo Lake in East Sikkim, Chopta Valley, Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim. 

 

Yaks are domesticated since centuries in Sikkim. In the recent years, yaks have been used for carrying tourists in the mountainous terrain and for enjoyment at tourist destinations. The tourists from far-off lands come here to enjoy this tranquil ride on a Yak.

About Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake or Changu Lake, is a glacial lake in East Sikkim district of Sikkim. It is located some 40 kilometres from the capital city Gangtok. Located at an elevation of 3,753 m (12,313 ft), the lake remains frozen during the winter season. The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks prognosticated after studying the changing colours of the lake.
 

How To Reach
The only way to reach the lake is through a drive from Gangtok. You will also get hired taxi to reach Tsomgo Lake from Gangtok.
