Nagaland Police Drill display by NAP Indian Reserve Battalion

Nagaland Police department is the biggest Directorate in the state of Nagaland consisting of more than 25,000 employees.


Nagaland Police as a ‘state police’ existed after attaining statehood on 1st December 1963. Prior to 1963, Kohima was a sub-division of Naga Hills, which was a district under Assam state.

  • District Executive Force (DEF) Kohima was established in 1914 during WWI to assist the District Administration during the British rule. 
  • North Police Station, Kohima is the first / oldest police station established by the British in 1933.

Motto of Nagaland Police is: Security, Service and Sacrifice

This drill was performed by Nagaland Armed Police (NAP -IRB). Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) is not para-military, but a special armed force within States police force.
