Sikkim in January : snowy lake near Baba Mandir, Nathula Pass





This is a lake on the way to Baba Mandir before Nathula pass. The Baba Mandir area is popular for Shiv statue next to a serene waterfall which is totally frozen in January.
 Nathula pass in Sikkim is a mountain pass In the Himalayas. It connects the Indian state of Sikkim with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The pass, at 4,310 m (14,140 ft) above mean sea level forms a part of an offshoot of the ancient Silk Road. Nathu means "listening ears" and La means "pass" in Tibetan.

Only Indian citizens are allowed to visit the area and that too after obtaining a permit from Sikkim Government Tourism.

If you would like to visit Nathula, contact any tour operators in Gangtok, capital of Sikkim, they would have tour packages for Nathula. You should contact them at least a day or two in advance and they will arrange the pass. As of January 2016, the cost for a car and pass was around Rs. 4500.00 for Sumo/Maxx and Rs. 7000.00 for Innova.


Documents required making the pass:
1. Identity proof (any Govt. Issued ID such as driving license, pan card, voter ID card etc.)
2. Recent Passport photo (2x)
